Yes, there are there are three types of omega 3 fats. The heart-healthy omega 3s found in fish are called EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA omega 3s are a "long-chain" omega3 fat which the human body has a much stronger preference for. Omega 3s found in some plant seeds and oils are know as alpha-linolenic acid. Alpha-linolenic acid has some but not all the health benefits associated with EPA and DHA. When buying formula, yogurt, margarine, etc. with added Omega-3's, it's a good idea to check if they contain long-chain omega-3s, DHA, or EPA.
